Grand Pianos
Since their earliest development grand pianos have played an important role in music and many thousands of compositions have been written to be played on grand pianos. The grand pianos that we are familiar with today are very different from some of the earliest examples as the technology and techniques sued to construct grand pianos have advanced significantly since these early days. However despite these differences today’s modern grand pianos do retain some aspects of their design from early grand pianos, notably the shape and the layout of the keyboard, which has been accepted as a standard throughout the music world.
Grand pianos are typically very expensive items, particularly the very large concert grands which can be heard at concert halls around the world. Because of their cost few people are able to afford grand pianos; however there are some cheaper alternatives, notably small and baby brand pianos which are small enough to be accommodated in a reasonably modest living room. Small grand pianos for domestic use can cost as little as two thousand pounds and although that figure may seem expensive it is significantly less than the cost of full sized concert grand pianos which can cost in excess of twenty thousand pounds.
